Hurst Pediatric Dentistry

Hospital Dentistry

For those who cannot maintain or receive traditional dental care, hospital dentistry offers a compassionate, efficient alternative. Frequently, medically compromised patients have no time to maintain a rigorous dental schedule in addition to their other medical treatments. Patients who have compromised mental functions may be unable to complete standard dental regimens on their own or may feel heightened anxiety about dental procedures. In some cases, dental needs and medical problems may be intertwined, requiring the presence of both a medical doctor and a dentist. These cases require localized, comprehensive care, which can be provided by a hospital dentist.

Due to age or developmental challenges some patients are also unable to have treatment in a traditional office setting. Dr. Hurst has privileges at Children’s Hospital of Alabama where he cares for those patients who need treatment in that environment. He received special training to enable him to understand and treat the complexities of his patients’ needs both in the office and in the hospital setting.
